- THINGS TO DO -
When in Rome Puglia
As we love this part of Italy, we hope that many of you will be able to use our wedding date as a springboard for exploring other places in the region.
For those looking to extend their stay, we have shared some of our favourite places to visit below:
Lecce
Also known as the Florence of the South, due to the many Baroque-style buildings and the southern hospitality.
We absolutely love Lecce and would recommend you to stay in one of the many B&Bs in the centro storico during our wedding.
Locals will tell you not to eat fish here, on account of it being 7 whole kilometers from the sea and will instead, encourage you to eat their local delicacy - horse meat!
Alberobello
The town of the trulli, little dry stone huts with cone-shaped roofs.
Although Alberobello has by far the most trulli of any town, you can find them all over the area between Bari and Lecce.
We stayed in one (outside of Alberobello) last year which we can highly recommend.
Ostuni
Although you’d struggle to find a town in Puglia without white houses, Ostuni really takes the crown as
The White City.
Situated on a hill, you can see Ostuni from miles away. Definitely worth a visit!
Polignano a Mare
An Instagram favourite! And for good reason.
In June the crowds will be manageable, so you can get your perfect Spritz shot here #BoyfriendsOfInstagram
Monopoli
We love this little beach town! Featuring a very cute fisherman’s port and a very nice city beach, Monopoli makes a truly wonderful base from which to explore Puglia.
The best hotels here are found in Mayfair/de Kalverstraat ;)
Gallipoli
According to Wikipedia the name Gallipoli comes from the ancient Greek word for beautiful city .
According to our taxi driver it is the city with the best combination of beaches and night life.
They’re probably both right.
Matera
A 2+ hour drive away from Lecce, but a must-see for every James Bond fan!
Travel blogs describe it as a peaceful town on a hill, but a certain Mr Craig told me it wasn’t peaceful at all!
For those flying into Bari and renting a car (preferably an Aston Martin), this isn’t too far out of the way.
